Trump: Iran 'desperate' for nuclear talks amid ongoing tensions
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Former US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Iran is "desperate" to engage in negotiations to end the conflict between the two nations. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump claimed that Iran wants to meet "desperately to try and end [the war] because they're getting decimated." He added that the US has no interest in talks unless Iran is ready to engage "in a meaningful way."
Trump asserted that the US military has been "degrading" Iran's military capabilities "at levels that nobody thought was possible." However, he acknowledged that Iran managed to launch an attack in Jordan that killed two US service members. He also repeated claims that US strikes last year destroyed Iran's nuclear sites, preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. "If we hadn't done that, they would have a nuclear weapon, and you wouldn't have Israel," Trump said.
The comments come amid long-standing tensions between the US and Iran, including over Iran's nuclear program and regional conflicts. Trump's remarks follow a series of exchanges between the two countries, including airstrikes and attacks on military positions.
