Josh Kerr breaks 27-year-old mile world record in London
By TrendingWire Newsroom
British runner Josh Kerr set a new world record for the mile at the London Diamond League, breaking a mark that had stood for 27 years. The 26-year-old Scot finished the race in 3 minutes and 42.66 seconds, beating the previous record held by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj by nearly half a second. Kerr's performance stunned the crowd at the London Stadium, as he became the first Briton to hold the mile world record in decades. The previous record was set in 1997 by El Guerrouj, a time many thought would last even longer. Kerr's achievement marks a highlight of the Diamond League season and cements his status as one of the world's top middle-distance runners. The race was a homecoming for Kerr, who was born in Edinburgh and now trains in the United States. He described the record as a dream come true, but acknowledged that he will now face even higher expectations in future competitions. The mile is one of athletics' most historic events, and Kerr's name now joins a list of legends who have held the record. The London Diamond League continues to be a showcase for elite track and field talent.
