Rahul Dravid, the former India cricket captain and coach, recently spoke about his early days on the hockey field. Addressing an inter-college hockey tournament at St Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC) in Bengaluru, Dravid recalled his time as a hockey midfielder. The event marked the college’s platinum jubilee.
Dravid attended St. Joseph’s Boys High School, where he played alongside future international hockey players Anil Aldrin and Sandeep Somesh. He described hockey as one of his favourite sports, even though he later chose cricket and became a legendary batsman.
During his speech, Dravid highlighted the lessons he learned from hockey, such as teamwork and humility. He encouraged young athletes to embrace multiple sports and value the discipline they teach. The former India coach, known for his calm and humble nature, credited his school and college years for shaping his character.
Dravid’s visit to SJCC drew a large crowd of students and fans. The tournament, part of the platinum jubilee celebrations, aims to promote hockey among college students.
