The United States on Thursday imposed new sanctions targeting global networks that support Iran's Mahan Air, an airline Washington says is used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to transport weapons, military personnel and equipment. The US Treasury designated six entities and individuals in China, India, Russia and Iran for acting as sales agents and support networks for the airline, which is already under US and EU sanctions.
Among those sanctioned are two China-based companies and a Chinese executive, according to the Treasury. The action marks the second consecutive day that Washington has targeted mainland China- or Hong Kong-linked businesses accused of supporting Tehran, as part of a broader pressure campaign. The US alleges that Mahan Air is the IRGC's 'airline of choice' for moving military assets.
