India mandates soft skills training for hospital staff to improve patient care
By TrendingWire Newsroom
The Indian government has made soft skills training compulsory for all hospital employees. Health Minister announced the decision on Thursday, citing a high number of complaints from patients and visitors about rude behavior, poor communication, and unsatisfactory interactions with hospital staff.
Under the new rule, hospitals will be required to conduct regular training programs to improve how staff members talk to and treat patients. The goal is to create a more patient-friendly environment. The minister said that while medical care is important, the way patients are treated also plays a big role in their recovery and overall experience.
Many government and private hospitals across the country have received complaints about staff being unhelpful or disrespectful. The mandatory training will cover skills like active listening, empathy, and clear communication. Hospital administrators will be responsible for organizing these sessions and ensuring all employees, from doctors to security guards, complete them.
The move is part of broader efforts to improve healthcare services in India. Patients often feel stressed when visiting hospitals, and positive interactions with staff can help ease that anxiety. The minister urged hospitals to take the training seriously and implement it effectively. The government will monitor compliance and may take action against facilities that fail to meet the requirement.
