Activist Sonam Wangchuk Hospitalized on 21st Day of Hunger Strike, Security Tightened
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Security has been tightened at Jantar Mantar and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to the hospital on the 21st day of his hunger strike. Wangchuk, who was protesting, was moved following a court order, according to police. They said the transfer was necessary for urgent medical care. However, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been supporting Wangchuk, alleged he was forcibly taken from the protest site. The CJP also posted on social media that Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, was not allowed to carry a phone while meeting him in the emergency ward. The activist's hunger strike had drawn attention to issues of climate change and development in Ladakh. Authorities have not commented on the allegations about restricted phone access. The situation remains under watch as Wangchuk receives medical treatment. The protest and subsequent hospitalisation have sparked discussions about the treatment of activists in India. Both supporters and officials are awaiting further updates on his health and the ongoing legal proceedings.
