The Kerala government has ordered an inquiry into reports that a state-owned corporation spent nearly ₹19.13 lakh of public money to obtain a corporate membership at a tennis club in Thiruvananthapuram. Health Minister Veena George directed the Health Department Principal Secretary to conduct an immediate investigation after media reports highlighted the expenditure by the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMCSL). The KMCSL, which is under the health department, reportedly used the funds to secure a corporate membership at the Thiruvananthapuram Tennis Club. The minister stated that any unauthorized use of public funds will not be tolerated. The inquiry will look into the details of the membership, the expenses involved, and whether proper procedures were followed. The minister's order came after local media raised questions about the propriety of spending taxpayer money on a club membership. The inquiry is expected to determine if any rules were violated and to fix responsibility for the expenditure. The KMCSL is responsible for procurement and supply of medicines and equipment for government hospitals. The government has emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
