Delhi High Court Refuses to Transfer Sonam Wangchuk to Private Hospital; Family to File New Petition

By TrendingWire Newsroom

The Delhi High Court has declined to order the transfer of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private facility. Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike, was admitted to the government hospital earlier. The court stated that the government acted within its rights to ensure his medical care and that no force was used during his transfer. Family members have been granted round-the-clock access to Wangchuk. Doctors are monitoring his health and administering oral substances with his consent. Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, said the government intervention was unnecessary. She expressed that the public interest litigation was misinterpreted and confirmed plans to file a new petition on July 20. The couple believes the hospital transfer request should have been handled differently. The court's refusal has prompted them to seek alternative legal avenues. Wangchuk is known for his advocacy on climate change and has been on a fast to press for demands related to the protection of the Himalayan region. His health remains under observation, and authorities continue to provide medical support as needed.
