India strongly rejected Pakistan’s statements at the United Nations Security Council on July 22, accusing Islamabad of pushing a “false narrative” during a high-level debate on international peace and security. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, said New Delhi was compelled to respond after Pakistan “misused” the forum to raise what India considers baseless allegations regarding the Kashmir region.
Speaking at the High-Level Open Debate, Harish reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. He condemned cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan and called on the international community to hold countries that support such activities accountable. The Indian envoy did not mention any specific incident but reiterated India’s long-standing position that dialogue and peace cannot progress while terrorism continues.
The debate, which focused on challenges to international peace, saw Pakistan attempting to divert attention, according to India. Harish’s remarks were a clear rebuttal to what India views as deliberate misinformation. He urged the Security Council not to be misled by such narratives and to focus on genuine threats to global stability, including terrorism.
This exchange reflects the ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, who have fought multiple wars over Kashmir. India maintains that Kashmir is an internal matter and has consistently opposed any third-party mediation.
