At least 39 pilgrims were injured on Wednesday when their bus skidded off the road and plunged into a low-lying area in Jammu and Kashmir. The accident occurred near the S-Mode area of Ganiwan in the Gund region of Ganderbal district, while the pilgrims were traveling to the holy Amarnath cave shrine. The bus was carrying devotees from various parts of the country as part of the annual Amarnath Yatra. Local police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle on a sharp curve, causing it to veer off the road. The injured were reported to be in stable condition, receiving medical treatment. The Annual Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 1, sees thousands of pilgrims trekking to the cave shrine located at an altitude of 13,000 feet in the Himalayas. Authorities have urged devotees to drive cautiously and follow safety guidelines. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. Similar incidents have occurred in the past due to difficult terrain and heavy traffic on the narrow mountainous roads. The state government has assured all necessary assistance to the affected pilgrims.
