Kapil Dev Urges Fans to Celebrate Rohit Sharma's Career Amid Retirement Speculation

By TrendingWire Newsroom

Former India cricket captain Kapil Dev has called on fans to celebrate Rohit Sharma's achievements rather than focus on retirement rumors. Speculation is growing that Sunday's third ODI against England might be Rohit's final international match, following a poor run of form in the series. The 37-year-old batsman has managed only 34 runs in the first two games, fueling talk of an impending retirement. Kapil Dev, who led India to its first World Cup win in 1983, said retirement is a natural part of any athlete's career. He expressed hope that Rohit would end his international stint on a high note, possibly with a century in his potential farewell game. "If he's going, he should go with a century. That would be the perfect goodbye," Kapil said. Rohit, one of India's most successful limited-overs cricketers, has scored over 10,000 runs in ODIs and hit three double centuries in the format. He also led India to the 2023 Cricket World Cup final. However, his recent form has raised questions about his future. Kapil advised fans to appreciate Rohit's contributions rather than speculate about his end. "We should celebrate what he has given to Indian cricket. Every player has to retire someday, so let's enjoy his last moments," he added. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not commented on the retirement rumors. Rohit himself has remained silent, focusing on the series. The third ODI will be played in Ahmedabad.
