Bristol's tallest building tied to Israeli funds
By TrendingWire Newsroom
A new student housing tower in Bristol, England, is drawing attention because of its financial links to Israel. The St James House development, which will be the city's tallest building, is funded by Cain International and Menora Mivtachim, one of Israel's largest pension and insurance firms. The project includes a 28-story student tower and an 18-story co-living block for young professionals. Critics say the investment ties Bristol to Israeli military operations in Gaza, as Menora Mivtachim has invested in Israeli military infrastructure projects. Cain International's CEO, Jonathan Goldstein, is a prominent pro-Israel activist who campaigned against former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. The project is part of a larger trend of foreign investment in UK student housing, driven by rising international student numbers. Construction is set to finish by 2028. Bristol has a history of both commerce and activism, and the tower has sparked debate about the city's role in global capital flows.
