Singapore minister resigns after 'inappropriate interactions' with woman
By TrendingWire Newsroom
A Singaporean minister has resigned after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the official had engaged in 'interactions with a woman' that were inappropriate. The resignation adds to a series of recent scandals affecting the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), which has long prided itself on a clean and honest image.
The prime minister did not provide further details about the interactions but said the minister's conduct fell short of the high standards expected of public officials. The minister, whose name has not been officially confirmed in reports, stepped down from his cabinet position and also resigned from the party.
The PAP has dominated Singapore politics since independence and is known for its strict anti-corruption stance. However, in recent months, the party has faced multiple controversies, including allegations of misconduct against other senior figures. These incidents have raised questions about the party's governance and accountability.
Political analysts say the resignations could affect public trust in the government, though Singapore's strong legal framework and independent anti-corruption agency continue to be seen as effective.
The prime minister's office stated that the matter would be investigated further. No criminal charges have been announced so far.
