Norway is set to make a formal complaint to FIFA after the world football governing body overturned a red card suspension for United States forward Folarin Balogun. The ban was lifted following a request from US President Donald Trump, according to reports.
Norway's football chief expressed strong concern over the decision, saying it puts the integrity of the sport at risk. “When you bend a rule like this, you're on a slippery slope that will put the whole game at risk,” the official told The Times.
The complaint comes after Balogun was initially suspended for a red card received during the World Cup. FIFA’s reversal has sparked controversy, with Norway arguing that the decision sets a dangerous precedent for how disciplinary matters are handled.
It remains unclear how FIFA will respond to the complaint. The organization has not yet commented publicly on the matter. Balogun, who plays for US national team, will now be available for selection following the overturned ban.
