Promoter Says Joshua-Itauma Fight in Nigeria Could Beat Ali's 'Rumble in the Jungle'
By TrendingWire Newsroom
A Nigerian fight promoter has claimed that a potential bout between Anthony Joshua and Moses Itauma in Nigeria would generate more global attention than Muhammad Ali's famous 'Rumble in the Jungle' in 1974.
Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, the promoter, described the proposed match as a 'perfect story' for Nigeria. He believes that a clash between the two British-born fighters of Nigerian heritage would be a 'blockbuster' event. Joshua, a former world heavyweight champion, and Itauma, a rising star in the division, both have roots in Nigeria.
Adamu compared the potential fight to the historic 1974 bout between Ali and George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo). That fight was watched by millions worldwide. Adamu thinks Joshua vs. Itauma could surpass that in terms of global interest, especially given the growth of boxing in Africa and the diaspora.
No official announcement has been made yet, but discussions are ongoing. Joshua has expressed interest in fighting in Nigeria before, and Itauma has also spoken about his Nigerian heritage. The fight would likely take place in a major Nigerian city, possibly Lagos or Abuja.
If the fight happens, it would be a landmark event for African boxing, bringing top-level heavyweight action to the continent. However, logistical and financial challenges remain. For now, fans can only wait for more details.
