New Scale Measures Students' Confidence in Using AI

By TrendingWire Newsroom

Researchers at Koç University in Turkey have developed a tool to measure how confident university students feel about using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The study, led by Associate Professor Remziye Semerci Şahin and Assistant Professor Seda Güney, adapted the existing Artificial Intelligence Self-Efficacy Scale (AISES) into Turkish and tested its reliability and validity. Self-efficacy refers to a person's belief in their ability to succeed in specific situations. In this context, it measures how capable students feel about using AI tools such as chatbots, data analysis programs, or machine learning platforms. The research involved nursing students, but the scale could be useful for other fields as well. The study was published in the International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction. Understanding students' confidence in AI is important because AI is becoming more common in education and healthcare. The scale helps educators identify areas where students may need more training or support. The researchers evaluated the psychometric properties of the scale to ensure it accurately measures what it intends to. They found it to be a valid and reliable instrument. This new scale could be used by universities to assess student preparedness for AI-integrated curricula and to design better learning experiences. The study adds to the growing body of research on AI in education.
