Flash floods displace dozens in Rajouri, J&K

Heavy overnight rain caused flash floods in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, forcing more than 50 families to evacuate their homes. The flooding, which began late Wednesday night, inundated settlements near Abdullah Bridge and affected another locality close to Tariq Bridge. Residents called for help as water levels rose rapidly, and police responded by assisting people to move to safer areas away from the riverbanks. Rescue and relief teams, working with the district administration, were deployed to evacuate affected families and assess the damage in the region. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far. Rajouri, a town in the Jammu region, often experiences flooding during the monsoon season, which typically lasts from June to September. The heavy downpour caught many off guard, leading to the sudden displacement. Local authorities have set up temporary shelters and are providing food and water to those affected. The weather department has predicted more rain in the coming days, and officials remain on alert.
