Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike following assurances from Union ministers and lawmakers across party lines that his demands would be addressed. The demands included exam reforms and a pledge not to take action against peaceful protesters. Wangchuk’s decision came after a meeting with Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. However, his wife, Gitanjali, claimed that he remains under constant police surveillance. She described the situation as oppressive. Meanwhile, Wangchuk had earlier been taken away by police from Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where he was protesting in support of the Climate Justice Platform. He later said he felt like he was in North Korea due to the treatment he received at a hospital. The government has not commented on these allegations.
