Saudi Arabia sees 22.5% increase in Umrah pilgrims at season start
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Saudi Arabia recorded a 22.5% rise in Umrah visa arrivals at the start of the 1448H Umrah season, with 931,500 pilgrims entering the kingdom between Dhul Hijjah 15 and the end of Muharram, according to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Pilgrim Experience Program. In total, more than 1.27 million pilgrims arrived from abroad during the same period, reflecting continued growth in the Umrah sector as part of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Pilgrim Experience Program.
The ministry stated that 75% of overseas Umrah pilgrims entered the kingdom through airports, while the remaining 25% arrived via land and sea ports. Pakistan ranked first among source countries with about 200,000 pilgrims, followed by Indonesia with 170,000 and Iraq with 130,000.
The figures highlight ongoing government efforts to improve digital and operational services, enhance access, and increase efficiency to provide a smoother Umrah journey from planning to departure. The ministry emphasized the leadership's support for serving pilgrims and the integration among government agencies.
Umrah is a minor pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims can perform at any time of year. The increase in pilgrims aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 plan, which aims to diversify the economy and boost religious tourism.
