Amarnath and Vaishno Devi Pilgrimages Halted from July 19 Due to Bad Weather
By TrendingWire Newsroom
The annual pilgrimages to the Amarnath cave shrine and the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir will be temporarily suspended starting July 19, officials announced on Wednesday. The decision comes after weather forecasts predicted heavy rainfall and adverse conditions in the region, raising safety concerns for thousands of devotees. Authorities stated that the suspension is a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of pilgrims. The Amarnath Yatra, which involves a challenging trek through mountainous terrain, and the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, a popular Hindu shrine, draw millions of visitors each year. Inclement weather, including rain, landslides, and low visibility, often poses risks during the monsoon season. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice, and officials will reassess the situation based on updated forecasts. Pilgrims who have already registered are advised to check with authorities for updates and rescheduling. The move highlights the administration's focus on safety as weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable. Both yatras are expected to resume once conditions improve. The state administration has appealed to devotees to cooperate and postpone their travel plans until the weather clears.
