Freddy Cannon, the rock and roll singer known for energetic hits like "Palisades Park" and "Tallahassee Lassie," has died at age 89. He passed away Friday at a hospice facility in California, according to a family representative. Born Frederick Anthony Picariello Jr. in 1936, Cannon began his music career in the late 1950s. His breakthrough came in 1959 with the song "Tallahassee Lassie," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard charts. He followed up with "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans" and his biggest hit, "Palisades Park," in 1962. The latter, inspired by a New Jersey amusement park, became one of the defining songs of the early 1960s rock era. Cannon was known for his high-energy performances and distinctive shouting style. He appeared on popular television shows like American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show. Although his chart success declined in the later 1960s, he continued to perform and record, maintaining a loyal fan base. He is survived by his wife and children.
