Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that causes intestinal illness, typically through contaminated food or water. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, cramping, bloating, and fatigue. The infection can last from a few days to several weeks and may relapse. The recent spike has been linked to imported fresh produce, though investigations are ongoing to identify the exact source. Health authorities advise washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly and practicing good hygiene. This outbreak surpasses previous records, with cases reported across multiple states.
