Cricket Legend Sir Garfield Sobers Dies at 89

Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, has passed away at the age of 89. The Barbados-born left-hander was known for his extraordinary all-round skills, excelling as a batsman, bowler, and fielder. He was named one of the five leading cricketers of the 20th century by Wisden.
Sobers made his Test debut for the West Indies in 1954 and went on to play 93 Tests, scoring 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78, including 26 centuries. He also took 235 wickets with his left-arm fast-medium and spin bowling, and held 109 catches. His most famous feat was hitting six sixes in an over in first-class cricket in 1968.
Beyond his statistics, Sobers was admired for his elegance and versatility. He could adapt to any situation, whether batting aggressively or bowling long spells. He also captained the West Indies in 39 Tests.
After retiring, he remained involved in cricket as a commentator and mentor. His legacy as the ultimate all-round sportsman endures, inspiring generations of cricketers.
