PV Sindhu wins Japan Open, ends title drought
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Indian badminton star PV Sindhu made history on Sunday by winning the Japan Open, becoming the first Indian to claim the title. The 31-year-old defeated three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-17, 21-17 in the final. The victory ended a title drought of more than two years for Sindhu, who last won a major title at the World Championships in 2019.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, showed great composure and skill throughout the match. She controlled the rallies and used her powerful smashes to keep Yamaguchi on the defensive. The win is a significant boost for Sindhu as she prepares for upcoming tournaments.
The Japan Open is a prestigious BWF World Tour Super 750 event, and Sindhu's victory adds to her impressive resume. She has now won titles at all levels of the sport, including the World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games.
Fans and fellow athletes congratulated Sindhu on social media for her achievement. The win also marks a strong comeback after a period of inconsistent results following the COVID-19 pandemic. Sindhu's performance in Japan shows that she remains a top contender in women's singles badminton.
