Congress to Join Protests for Jammu and Kashmir Statehood

By TrendingWire Newsroom

The Congress party has announced it will join the protest organized by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah demanding the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. Tariq Hamid Karra, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress party, stated that the party's central leadership will participate in the protest scheduled for July 20. This move comes amid ongoing demands from various political groups in the region for the return of statehood, which was revoked in August 2019 when the central government also abrogated Article 370. The protest is expected to draw attention to the issue and put pressure on the central government. Omar Abdullah, who leads the National Conference party, has been vocal about the need to restore statehood and constitutional guarantees. The Congress party's participation signifies a united opposition front on this matter. The protest is likely to be held in Srinagar.
