US pushes Arab states to normalize ties with Israel amid territorial disputes

By TrendingWire Newsroom

The United States has intensified efforts to persuade Arab and Muslim-majority countries to normalize relations with Israel, according to recent reports. Despite ongoing conflicts, Washington has pressured nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq to establish diplomatic ties. In June 2026, Lebanon signed a framework agreement with Israel that recognized Israeli sovereignty over disputed territories, marking a significant shift in regional diplomacy. Since its founding in 1948, Israel has expanded its borders through a series of wars and annexations. The country never declared permanent borders, and its territorial claims have grown over time. In 1967, Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, Golan Heights, and Sinai Peninsula. It later annexed East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, moves not widely recognized internationally. Egypt and Jordan signed peace treaties with Israel in 1979 and 1994, respectively, which implicitly accepted Israel’s post-1967 borders except for Sinai. The 2020 Abraham Accords saw normalization with the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan without addressing border issues. Critics argue that normalization rewards Israeli land acquisitions. However, proponents say it fosters regional stability. The recent Lebanon deal, brokered by the US, requires Hezbollah to disarm while Israel maintains occupation of southern Lebanese territory. Many Arab leaders face domestic opposition to normalization, but US pressure continues. The situation remains fluid as Israel's territorial ambitions persist.
