Israeli Forces Detain Five Palestinians, Two Minors, in West Bank Raid
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Israeli forces detained five Palestinians, including two children, during a raid on the village of Kisan near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank on Monday evening, local officials said.
Bakr Rashaydeh, head of the Kisan village council, reported that Israeli troops entered the village, searched several homes, and then took the five individuals into custody. The two minors are aged 15 and 16.
The detentions are part of ongoing Israeli military operations in the West Bank, a territory that has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. Such raids are common, often leading to arrests of Palestinians on suspicion of involvement in attacks or other activities. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.
The Palestinian community views these detentions as a form of collective punishment and a violation of international law. The United Nations and human rights groups have repeatedly called for an end to the detention of minors and for respect of international humanitarian law regarding occupied territories.
The detainees' identities and any charges have not been disclosed. It is unclear whether they will be brought before military courts, which are standard for Palestinians in the West Bank.
Tensions remain high in the region, with periodic clashes and arrests contributing to a cycle of violence and mistrust.
