Loftin's squeeze bunt lifts Royals past Giants in ninth

By TrendingWire Newsroom

In a thrilling finish on Monday night, the Kansas City Royals edged the San Francisco Giants 4-3 thanks to a squeeze bunt by Nick Loftin in the bottom of the ninth inning. With one out and Josh Rojas on third base, Loftin executed the bunt perfectly, driving in the winning run. The rally started when Rojas led off the ninth with a single. Tyler Tolbert then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Rojas to second. After Carter Jensen lined out, Rojas advanced to third on the play, setting the stage for Loftin's game-winning bunt. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Royals, who improved their record in close games this season. Starting pitcher Brady Singer tossed six solid innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five. The Giants tied the game in the top of the eighth on a two-run homer by Mike Yastrzemski, but the Royals responded immediately. Both teams played strong defense throughout the contest. The Royals' bullpen held the Giants scoreless over the final two innings, with reliever James McArthur earning the win. Loftin, a rookie called up earlier this month, has quickly become a reliable clutch hitter. His bunt was the first walk-off squeeze bunt for the Royals since 2018.
