Jon Rahm Avoids Questions About LIV Golf Future Beyond 2026
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Jon Rahm, the Spanish golfer who joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league in 2023, declined to discuss his plans beyond the current contract period when asked about a potential 2027 season. Speaking ahead of LIV Golf's latest event in the United Kingdom, Rahm sidestepped speculation about the league's long-term stability and his own role in it.
“I'm focused on this week and this season,” Rahm said. “There's a lot of talk, but I can't control what happens in the future.” LIV Golf has faced ongoing uncertainty about its format, funding, and broadcast deals since its launch in 2022. The league has attracted top players like Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Phil Mickelson with lucrative contracts, but questions remain about its sustainability.
Rahm, a former Masters champion and world No. 1, joined LIV for a reported $300 million deal. Since then, he has won several events but has also seen his world ranking drop due to LIV not receiving ranking points from the Official World Golf Ranking. The league currently has a contract with its Saudi backers through 2026, but no commitments beyond that.
When pressed on whether he would still be playing for LIV in 2027, Rahm replied, “I really have no answer for that. I’m just playing golf right now.” The golfer’s comments come amid reports that LIV Golf may need to restructure or merge with other tours to survive. For now, Rahm says his only goal is to compete and win.
