John Kirby, Renowned Acting Coach, Dies at 75 After Battle with ALS
By TrendingWire Newsroom
John Kirby, a well-known actor and acting coach, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 75. He had been living with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, for the past three years. The news of his death was shared on Instagram by Nathan Nesbitt, Kirby's studio manager and assistant for 22 years, who expressed deep sadness.
Kirby built a respected career in theater and film, appearing in productions such as 'The Bonfire of the Vanities' and 'The Fisher King.' However, he became most famous for his work as an acting coach. He founded the John Kirby Acting Studio in New York City, where he trained many successful actors. His teaching style was known for being supportive yet challenging, helping students find their authentic voice.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Kirby's diagnosis in 2020 did not stop him from continuing his work as long as possible. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to the craft of acting and mentorship.
Details about memorial services have not been announced yet. The acting community has begun paying tribute to Kirby's influence and kindness.
