ESPN Lays Off Staff Following NFL Network Takeover
By TrendingWire Newsroom
ESPN has announced a new round of layoffs, mainly affecting employees involved in the company's recent takeover of NFL Network operations. The job cuts were confirmed in a memo from ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro to staff on Tuesday.
The reductions primarily target behind-the-scenes production workers, but several on-air personalities are also leaving, including lead baseball play-by-play announcer Karl Ravech and NFL analyst Ryan Clark.
Pitaro stated that the layoffs are a direct result of ESPN's deal with the NFL, which was finalized earlier this year. The agreement gave ESPN control over the production and distribution of NFL Network content, leading to overlaps in staffing.
While the company did not specify the exact number of employees affected, the memo indicated that the cuts are part of an effort to streamline operations and avoid duplication of roles.
The layoffs mark the latest restructuring at ESPN, which has faced ongoing challenges in the changing media landscape. The network continues to focus on its core sports programming and digital expansion.
Affected employees will receive severance packages and career transition support, according to the memo.
