Skyroot Aerospace Launches India's First Private Orbital Rocket

By TrendingWire Newsroom

Skyroot Aerospace, a private Indian space company, has successfully launched Vikram-1, marking the country's first privately developed orbital rocket. The launch, named Mission Aagaman, took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. Vikram-1 is a three-stage, solid-fuel rocket capable of carrying small satellites into low Earth orbit. This achievement represents a significant milestone for India's growing private space sector, which was opened to private players in 2020. Previously, only the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had launched orbital rockets. Skyroot aims to provide cost-effective launch services for small satellites, competing with global players like Rocket Lab. The company has already secured funding and plans several more launches in the coming years. The success of Vikram-1 is expected to boost India's space ecosystem, encouraging innovation and investment. Skyroot's achievement demonstrates that private companies can successfully develop and launch orbital rockets, paving the way for more commercial space activities in India.
