Iran Condemns US Strike on Nuclear Plant as Violation of International Law

Iran has accused the United States of breaking international law after an airstrike hit the construction site of the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant. The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) issued a statement on Sunday, calling the attack a "barbaric act" that targeted a symbol of the nation's dignity and self-reliance. The agency did not specify the extent of the damage. The plant, located in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran, is still in early construction stages. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that no nuclear material was present at the site and said there was no radiological risk. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi urged military restraint near nuclear facilities. The strike is part of renewed US attacks on Iran after a month-long ceasefire collapsed last week. US Central Command said the strikes aimed to degrade Iran's ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to punish attacks on American forces. Iran's state media reported no casualties from the strike near Sirik and Shadegan. The conflict began in February when the US and Israel launched strikes to disable Iran's nuclear and missile programs. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei called the US actions "worthless" and warned of heavier costs. Tensions remain high as both sides increase hostilities.
