Iran Accuses US of War Crime After Strike Kills Eight Civilians
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson has accused the United States of committing a 'blatant war crime' after an American strike in Hormuzgan province killed eight civilians. The strike targeted bridges and other infrastructure, according to the spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei. He said the victims included four men and four women, with two brothers among them who had disabilities.
Baqaei made the statement on social media, calling the attack unlawful and saying it targeted civilian infrastructure. He added that the strikes had only strengthened the resolve of the Iranian people, making them 'more determined and united than ever.' He warned that Iran would make its 'enemies bitterly regret this criminal aggression.'
Hormuzgan is a province in southern Iran, along the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments. The region has seen tensions between Iran and the US for years. The strike reportedly occurred during ongoing hostilities between the two countries, though specific details of the operation remain unclear.
No official US comment has been reported yet. Human rights groups have previously raised concerns about civilian casualties in such strikes. The incident adds to rising tensions in the Middle East, where conflicts involving Iran, the US, and their allies have drawn international concern.
The Iranian government has called for an investigation and demanded accountability from the international community. The strike has also sparked protests in some Iranian cities, with demonstrators condemning the US action.
