John Legend has been cast as Harry Belafonte in Bill Condon's upcoming apartheid-era drama 'The Road Home'. The film centers on the political controversy surrounding Paul Simon's 1986 album 'Graceland' and its tour with South African musicians during apartheid. Legend, an EGOT winner, will play the American singer, actor and civil rights activist who served as an advisor to Simon during the tour. 'The Road Home' features Thabo Rametsi as legendary South African jazz musician Hugh Masekela, Cynthia Erivo as singer Miriam Makeba, and Johnny Flynn as Paul Simon. Condon, an Oscar-winning director known for 'Gods and Monsters' and 'Chicago', is helming the project. Principal photography is set to begin soon. The film will explore the firestorm that erupted over Simon's collaboration with South African artists while the country was under apartheid rule, highlighting the roles of Masekela and Makeba, who were exiled activists. Belafonte, a close friend of Makeba, was a key figure in the anti-apartheid movement.
