Saudi Border Guard Seizes 240 kg of Khat in Asir Region

By TrendingWire Newsroom

Saudi Arabian authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of the narcotic plant khat into the country. The Saudi Border Guard announced the arrest of 14 individuals, including Ethiopian and Yemeni nationals, in the Asir region. The suspects were caught by land patrols in the Raboua Sector while trying to smuggle 240 kilograms of khat, a stimulant plant that is illegal in Saudi Arabia. According to officials, the necessary legal procedures have been completed, and the suspects, along with the seized khat, have been handed over to the competent authority for further action. The Border Guard emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating drug smuggling and trafficking. Authorities urged the public to report any information about drug smuggling or trafficking by calling 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, 999 in the rest of the Kingdom, 994 for the Border Guard, or 995 for the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. Reports can also be submitted via email at 995@gdnc.gov.sa. The officials assured that all reports are handled with complete confidentiality and that informants bear no legal responsibility. Saudi Arabia maintains strict laws against drug smuggling, with severe penalties for those convicted. The country has intensified border security in recent years to prevent the flow of illegal substances.
