Delhi Woman Killed by Falling Construction Machine

By TrendingWire Newsroom

A 45-year-old woman was killed in Delhi on Tuesday when a concrete slab machine fell on her while she was walking past a construction site. The victim, identified as Manju, was near the site in the Shahdara area when the machine suddenly collapsed, crushing her instantly, according to police. No warning signs or barriers were in place at the site, officials said. The machine was being used to lift concrete slabs for a building project when it malfunctioned and toppled over. Police have registered a case of negligence against the construction company and are investigating the incident. This tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about safety at construction sites in Indian cities, where accidents are common due to lack of proper safeguards. In 2023, Delhi reported over 100 construction-related fatalities, many caused by falling objects or equipment. Local residents said they had previously complained about unsafe practices at the site. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and authorities are questioning workers and the site supervisor. Manju, a homemaker, was on her way to a nearby market when the accident occurred. Her family has demanded compensation and stricter enforcement of safety rules.
