Law professor refuses to teach after judge refers Trump lawyer for discipline

By TrendingWire Newsroom

A liberal law professor has distanced himself from a federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama, after the judge referred a lawyer who represented Donald Trump to a bar association for possible discipline. The professor stated he would not teach about the incident, calling it a troubling example of the legal system being used as a weapon. Judge Kathleen Williams, a U.S. district judge for the Southern District of Florida, referred Todd Blanche and other Department of Justice lawyers to state bar associations for potential disciplinary action. Blanche previously served as a defense attorney for Trump in his criminal cases. The referral has raised concerns among some legal experts about the politicization of the justice system. The professor, who teaches constitutional law at a prominent university, said he disagrees with the judge's decision and believes it sets a dangerous precedent. He emphasized that while he supports accountability for lawyers, this particular referral appears to target individuals based on their clients rather than their conduct. He added that he cannot in good conscience teach the case as an example of proper legal ethics. Judge Williams has not commented publicly on the professor's remarks. The bar associations involved have not announced whether they will proceed with investigations. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between legal professionals over the treatment of lawyers who represent politically controversial figures.
