Reality television producer Mike Darnell has signed an exclusive, multi-year overall deal with Netflix, the streamer announced. Under the agreement, Darnell will develop and produce original programming and provide strategic creative guidance across Netflix’s entire unscripted slate. The deal marks Darnell’s return to the industry three years after leaving Warner Bros. TV, where he had served as president of unscripted and alternative programming. Previously, Darnell spent more than two decades at Fox, where he helped create hit reality shows such as “American Idol,” “The Masked Singer,” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” Described as a reality television luminary, Darnell will now work with Netflix’s unscripted team to shape its growing library of nonfiction content. The move is seen as a major coup for the streaming giant, which has been expanding its reality and competition programming. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
