Sony Pictures Classics has acquired worldwide rights to 'Diamond,' a noir crime drama written, directed, produced by and starring Andy Garcia. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it received a warm reception. Garcia plays Joe Diamond, a mysterious man with a traumatic past whose keen observational skills help him solve crimes for the LAPD. The contemporary Los Angeles-set story follows Diamond as a man out of time in an urban environment. The film also stars Vicky Krieps, Brendan Fraser, Bill Murray, and Dustin Hoffman. Sony Pictures Classics will handle distribution for most of the global market, with the deal covering a majority of international rights. The acquisition marks the studio's latest addition to its slate of prestige independent films.
