Tamil Nadu hasn't asked Centre to relocate Parandur airport site, says Union minister
By TrendingWire Newsroom
The Tamil Nadu government has not formally requested the central government to shift the proposed airport location from Parandur, according to a Union minister of state. The minister made the statement in response to a question raised by DMK Rajya Sabha MP P. Wilson.
The proposed airport at Parandur, located in Kanchipuram district, has been a subject of debate. Some local groups and politicians have raised concerns about land acquisition and environmental impact, with some suggesting alternative sites. However, the state government has not submitted any official proposal to the Centre for a change of location, the minister clarified.
The response came during the question hour in the Rajya Sabha, where Wilson sought details on the status of the new airport project and whether the state had requested a shift. The minister’s reply indicates that, as of now, the Centre is proceeding with the Parandur site based on the earlier proposal from the Tamil Nadu government.
The Parandur airport project is intended to ease pressure on Chennai’s existing airport. The central government has been pushing for its development, but the timeline remains uncertain pending clearances and state cooperation.
