Iran claims strike on US base in Syria as American airstrikes continue
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said on Friday it attacked a US special operations command center in Syria, as American bombs fell on Iran for a sixth straight night. The strike targeted the al-Tanf base, but a Syrian military source said the attack hit near the base, not the base itself, and caused no casualties or damage. The claim could not be independently verified.
The US has been bombing Iran since late June, with at least 38 people killed and over 400 wounded, according to Iran's health ministry. On Friday, US strikes hit Iranshahr airport, wounding one civilian and damaging facilities. Attacks on bridges in southern Iran killed at least seven civilians, state media reported. Explosions were also heard in Chabahar and Bandar Abbas, where one was killed and eight injured.
In response, Iran launched drones and missiles at several countries hosting US assets. Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar reported intercepting attacks. Jordan said it shot down three Iranian missiles. In Iraq, US-led coalition forces downed drones over Erbil. Iran also claimed to target US helicopters in Bahrain and a maritime radar in Oman.
Despite the escalation, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump is open to diplomacy. The conflict began in late February with a US-Israeli war on Iran. Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa has said his country will stay neutral unless attacked.
