The Bihar government has appointed cricketers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP). Both players hail from the state and have represented India in international cricket.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced the appointments, expressing confidence that athletes from Bihar will bring glory to the state and country in major sporting events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cups, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the coming years.
Akash Deep, a fast bowler, made his Test debut for India in 2024, while Mukesh Kumar, also a pacer, has played in all three formats for the national team. Their appointments are seen as a recognition of their achievements and an effort to inspire young sportspeople in Bihar. The state has been working to improve sports infrastructure and encourage local talent.
The move follows a trend of Indian states offering government jobs to accomplished athletes. Both cricketers are expected to balance their sporting careers with their new police duties. Details of their posting and responsibilities have not been disclosed yet.
