The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has declared the safety of Indian seafarers its highest priority after two separate incidents in the Black Sea left sailors trapped and missing. In one incident, 15 sailors—including 13 Indians—remain in a “terrible and life-threatening situation” at the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, according to the Maritime Union of India (FSUI) on July 28. In another attack, four Indian crew members were aboard the merchant vessel MV AGN Ragnar when it was struck at Ukraine’s Odesa port on July 25. Two of those Indian seafarers are still missing. The Indian Embassy confirmed it is monitoring the situation along the Black Sea coast. The attacks highlight ongoing risks to civilian vessels in the region amid the war in Ukraine. The embassy has not provided further details on the condition of the trapped sailors or the search for the missing crew. The developments come as international shipping continues to operate near conflict zones, with India’s government urging safe passage for its citizens.
