The Tamil Nadu Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution moved by Chief Minister Vijay making it mandatory for the state song 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu' to be rendered first at official events.
The resolution comes against the backdrop of a letter from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs dated July 9, 2026, asking states and Union ministries to strictly comply with its January 28 directive that the national song 'Vande Mataram' be played before the National Anthem at official events.
According to the resolution, the Tamil Thai Vazhthu must be sung first at all official functions in the state. The Assembly's adoption of the resolution was unanimous.
