Pentagon says nearly 100 US troops hurt in Iran attacks

Nearly 100 American service members have been injured in recent attacks by Iran, the Pentagon said on Monday. The injuries have occurred since July 7 as part of Iran’s retaliation against US strikes on its forces. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell made the announcement and also denounced a New York Times report that claimed the Pentagon had withheld information about the injuries. Parnell called the report “baseless” and “malicious.” Earlier, the Pentagon’s official database showed no US troops killed or wounded in action in July. However, the Department of War later confirmed that three US soldiers were killed in a ballistic missile attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan over the weekend. The soldiers were identified as Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, and a third soldier listed as missing. Also in Iraq, Sergeant Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, was killed and another soldier wounded during a controlled detonation of an Iranian attack drone at Erbil Air Base. The Pentagon has described its operations as transparent and challenged the journalists behind the report. The United States and Iran have been in conflict for years, with recent exchanges of strikes raising tensions in the Middle East.
