Starmer criticized for inaccuracies in final statements as UK PM
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Keir Starmer has stepped down as UK prime minister, but his final days in office have been marked by controversy over statements he made about his predecessor, Jeremy Corbyn. During his last Prime Minister's Questions and a subsequent visit to Kyiv, Starmer claimed that under Corbyn, the Labour Party was found to be “institutionally antisemitic.” Corbyn quickly denied this, noting that no official investigation reached that conclusion. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report in 2020 found specific instances of harassment and discrimination but did not use the phrase “institutionally antisemitic.” Critics say Starmer's statements were misleading. Additionally, Starmer has been accused of breaking key promises from his 2020 leadership campaign, including pledges to nationalize rail, mail, energy, and water, and to raise taxes on high earners. Many of these pledges were abandoned after he became leader. Supporters praise Starmer for saving the party from electoral defeat, but opponents argue his tenure was marked by dishonesty. Starmer's departure has sparked debate about his legacy.
