The United States and Saudi Arabia have reached a civilian nuclear cooperation deal, but US President Donald Trump says the agreement depends on Saudi Arabia normalizing relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords, a move the kingdom has long resisted. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it is aware of the deal but has not yet received a formal request from either side to carry out verification work. The IAEA said it looks forward to working with both countries on implementing the measures. Concerns have been raised about the potential for a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, as critics worry the agreement could allow Saudi Arabia to develop nuclear weapons. The deal would mark a significant shift in regional diplomacy if Saudi Arabia agrees to normalize ties with Israel, which it has historically rejected until the establishment of a Palestinian state. The IAEA said it is prepared to assist once a request is made.
