Yemen's coastguard said at least six people were killed in a Houthi attack on a cargo ship in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Tuesday, raising an earlier death toll of three. The coastguard, which is controlled by Yemen's internationally recognised government, also said the Houthis targeted a rescue mission that was evacuating the ship, causing additional deaths and injuries. The vessel was an Egyptian-owned small cargo ship. Three Pakistani nationals and one Indonesian national were among the crew killed, the coastguard said in a statement. Initial accounts from Yemeni coast guard sources and military officials had put the death toll at three. The Houthis, an Iran-aligned group, have carried out a series of attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, disrupting a vital trade route and raising concerns for shipping companies.
