Lettuce Recall: Taylor Farms Pulls Iceberg in 27 States Due to Parasite Contamination

By TrendingWire Newsroom

Taylor Farms has recalled its iceberg lettuce products across 27 U.S. states due to possible contamination with Cyclospora, a parasite that causes intestinal illness. The recall was announced after routine testing revealed the potential presence of the parasite. Cyclosporiasis, the infection caused by Cyclospora, can lead to symptoms such as watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and fatigue, which may last for weeks if untreated. Consumers who purchased the recalled lettuce are urged not to eat it and to return it to the store for a refund or discard it. The affected states include a wide range across the country, though the company did not specify the exact list. The recall applies to various bag sizes and brands sold under Taylor Farms' own label and possibly other store brands. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is working with the company to investigate the source of the contamination. No illnesses have been confirmed yet in connection with this recall, but consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for any recalled products. This is not the first time Cyclospora has been linked to fresh produce; outbreaks have occurred in the past from imported herbs and vegetables. Taylor Farms has apologized and assured the public that it is taking steps to prevent future issues.
